A retired couple in Santa Rosa hired us to replace their thirsty lawn and help them apply for the city’s “cash for grass” rebate. They had maintained turf in their gardens for over 40 years and struggled imagining a yard without a green lawn, so we happily presented a 3D concept to help them visualize the new outdoor space we designed. They were as thrilled with the results as we were. A flat lifeless lawn was replaced with a dynamic garden which featured planted berms, a boulder framed stormwater swale, a flagstone and gravel guest pathway, and plants galore! They are proud to show off their new garden that supports living soil, recharges groundwater, welcomes native pollinators, and is surviving the daily visits from the local deer as a result of our carefully selected plant palette.

Before & After
We reached out to Rootsy Garden Design to help us qualify for the “Cash for Grass” Rebate program in our city. Not only did we get the lawn replacement rebate, Rootsy exceeded all expectations and created a beautiful and dynamic front yard garden space we love. Our designer, Laura, transformed our flat front lawn into an imaginative drought tolerant design involving native plants, a rainwater swale, elevated berms, artistically placed boulders and flagstone pathways. Laura’s constant communication with the work crew and attention to every detail along the way was exceptional. Since completion, our yard has drawn an enormous amount of positive feedback from neighbors and we’ve even had people knocking on our front door to get the designer’s contact info. It was a great experience working with Rootsy Garden Design.
